Poppies Day Nursery, a popular childcare establishment across Buckinghamshire and Berkshire, is expanding by opening a new 75 place nursery in Maidenhead.
Opening in August this year, Poppies Day Nursery, which also has sites in Bourne End, Old Windsor, Marlow, Beaconsfield and Holmer Green, have agreed a 15-year lease with Sorbon Estates.
Owned and directed by Anne Fox and Linda Hill, both qualified childcare practitioners who each have over thirty-five years' experience between them in the industry, first met when working as nursery nurses at Maidenhead Nursery School on School Lane.
"It was back then that we first discussed owning a nursery together one day and we became lifelong friends," says Anne, who has previously worked as an Ofsted Inspector. "In 2006 we accomplished our dream by becoming the proud owners of the Bourne End Methodist Church, which we converted into our first Poppies Day Nursery."
Poppies Maidenhead will be at Cliveden Nursery, a new purpose-built nursery developed by Sorbon Estates and specially designed for children; Specific Projects were the principle contractor carrying out the construction of the building, internal fit out and external areas. Located at Cliveden Shopping Centre on Shifford Crescent and just over a mile from the town centre, the newly built nursery which was handed over to Poppies on Monday 4th June offers 4,900 sq. ft of internal space and boasts a large outdoor play area with a sunken sandpit, as well as a spacious rooftop garden.
"We are very excited to be opening our new nursery in this beautiful purpose-built property and have enjoyed working closely with Sorbon Estates. We are passionate about providing high quality education and care at all Poppies sites and are proud of the reputation we have built during the past twelve years. We can't wait to welcome children into this wonderful child-centred environment," adds Linda, who has also worked in neo-natal baby units and special education needs schools.
"Each classroom has been designed to comply with OFSTED regulations with each room being tailored for different age groups," says Des McGuckin, head of projects at Sorbon Estates, who handed over the keys to the Poppies team this week. "We included soft finishes on all the play area surfaces, while security of the building is paramount - with a door entry system and separate lobby to maintain children's privacy and safety."
