White Waltham is a village and civil parish 2 miles
west of Maidenhead.
White Waltham has a large grass airfield which has a
significant history of pre-war flying training, war-time and
post-war RAF use and post-war use as flight test centre by the
Fairey and Westland aircraft companies.
Nearby Maidenhead is situated along an attractive stretch of
the River Thames and has long been a well-established landmark and
a staging post en-route to the West Country.
Maidenhead is near the M4 (J8/9) which links London, Heathrow
Airport, M25 and the West Country. The nearby A404(M) offers M40
access. The train station services Paddington and the West Country.
Crossrail (Elizabeth Line) is due in 2019.
Importantly, a major town centre regeneration project is
currently underway, which along with Crossrail, promises
significant long term benefits for the town and its
environment.
Today, Maidenhead is a thriving business hub with several major
industries represented - software; plastics; pharmaceuticals &
telecoms - supported by convenient transport links. The town hosts
several national retailers, a variety of independents and local
markets; a wide range of leisure facilities - drama, music, arts -
and a number of sports outlets.
